Him: Mom, why do people always want to come in first?
Me: I guess people like to compete and they think that first means you're the best.
Him: It's silly. Like why do you need to get the gold? Silver is really cool, too.
Me: Do you try to come in first?
Him: Sometimes. Mostly I just do things because I like to.
Me: I think you've figured out that it's feels better to focus what you want to do rather than worrying about comparing yourself to other people.
Him: (Face lights up with recognition) Yeah.
